Awards

The Asian Tea House was named Connacht’s Best Restaurant in the Santa Rita/Sunday Independent Irish Restaurant Awards 2011 . Almost 800 Industry peers attended Ireland’s leading restaurant awards with more than 6,000 nominations received for Ireland’s favourite restaurants, chefs, gastro pubs, hotel restaurants and local food heroes throughout the country. In addition to being acknowledged as Connacht’s Best Restaurant, the Restaurant also won the title of Best Restaurant in Galway, no mean feat, given the number and high standard of restaurants in the West’s Capital.

Speaking after receiving his award, Terry Commons, proprietor of the Asian Tea House, said he was delighted to be recognised with this award. “We would like to congratulate all the entrants in this year’s awards who are the economic engine rooms in every town in Ireland, creating and maintaining much needed local employment.”

“Despite the challenges of the current climate, we have stuck to our core ethos and ensured that the quality of our food is always supreme, and this has been appreciated by our loyal customer base and acknowledged by the Irish Restaurant Awards”. Loosely based on the ancient Chinese Tea House concept, the Asian Tea House was opened in 2008 by Terry Commons and head chef and co- proprietor Alan Wong.
